The GPS Integrity Module: Ensuring Operational Integrity and Safety for Mission-Critical Operations
GPS jamming and spoofing pose significant risks to Army operations, impacting the safety and efficiency of ground and air assets. Ground combat vehicles, weapons systems, transport aircraft, UAVs, and soldier navigation devices, can become targets of GPS jamming and spoofing attempts. These threats can lead to navigation errors, potentially jeopardizing platform and personnel safety, particularly in congested or contested areas.
Addressing the complexity and intensity of this threat requires a proactive and comprehensive defense strategy that includes constant monitoring of navigation systems, real-time anomaly detection, and rapid response to signs of interference.
The Shift5 GPS Integrity Module provides advanced, multi-faceted detection and alerting for GPS spoofing and jamming attempts, ensuring the safety and reliability of navigation. Using data collected from onboard systems, the Shift5 Platform can assess position changes and alert operators about anomalies in real-time.
The module, customizable to work with any platform, enhances situational awareness by delivering direct alerts for GPS spoofing attempts. This helps facilitate more efficient and secure decision-making processes. With immediate notifications, operators can quickly and accurately initiate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), such as deactivating the GPS to prevent it from corrupting other interconnected navigation systems, like the inertial navigation system, to maintain the integrity and safety of mission-critical operations.
Shift5 is the dual-use, subscription-based observability platform for onboard operational technology (OT), enabling smarter, faster decisions through real-time data access, contextual insights, and actionable analytics at the edge. Shift5 is committed to continuing our collaboration with AUSA and the U.S. Army to deliver innovative technologies that address evolving threats in today’s dynamic battlespace.
