Shift5’s own, Rebeccah Wrady, has been selected to lead a lightning topic discussion during the Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) 2021 Conference in Denver, CO, titled “Defending Legacy Systems Against Cyber Attack.”
Lightning talks highlight fresh ideas, unique perspectives, valuable experiences, and emerging trends in cybersecurity. These presentations seek to jump-start discussions and collaborations while soliciting feedback from the community.
Rebeccah is our Product Lead of Apps & Experiences at Shift5. She has made a career of making intentional pivots, working hard to fill in gaps with each transition. After working in numerous industries, including automotive manufacturing, legal tech, and now, cybersecurity, she has learned to consider multiple perspectives before making decisions, which has helped her deliver products that delight customers every day. Rebeccah is a proud Ramblin’ Wreck and loves building legos and magnatile masterpieces with her husband and son.

“When people think cyber security, the first things that tend to come to mind are hacked computers and data breaches. In an increasingly digitized world, people have to start thinking about vulnerabilities that exist in all of our systems from our cars to smart lightbulbs to large machinery. While cyber security is now being considered by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) during design phases, we are left to wonder how we can defend legacy systems from cyber attack and how do we convince teams that they need to be defended? In this lightning talk, you’ll learn quick tactics to bring cyber security to industries that aren’t sure they are ready for it yet.“

About WiCyS
Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the recruitment, retention and advancement of women in the cybersecurity field. Founded through a National Science Foundation grant to Tennessee Tech University in 2012, WiCyS (pronounced Wee-Sis) is the brainchild of Dr. Ambareen Siraj, who grew the initiative into a vibrant and active community of women and supportive men from academia, industry, government and research. The organization is working to improve diversity and pipeline in the cybersecurity workforce, and it does so through numerous initiatives, together with Strategic Partners and an army of energetic volunteers.
